Handcuffs are the tools most often used by police officers and security personnel.  Despite their extensive use, training is often overlooked or left up to the individuals to practice on their own.  Experience dictates that individuals quite often attempt to resist arrest or detention, resulting in injuries to both subject and officer.

This course will focus on subject control, handcuffing and searching. Also addressed is equipment placement and familiarity.
Topics included; liability, the law, nomenclature, guidelines, handcuffing the non-resistive and aggressive subject, handcuffing from the standing and prone positions, removing handcuffs and the use of contact/cover officers.

This course deals with the use of empty hand techniques (such as punches, elbow strikes, knee strikes and kicks).

This course is the building block of Defencive Tactics and is a prerequisite to Edged Weapon Defence and Expandable Baton. This course will incorporate the use of an Impact-Resistant-Suit to evoke the level of effort required to be certified, increase safety, and maintain the quality of physical force instruction.

Defencive Tactics training is designed to promote effective and efficient use of empty hand techniques. The participant learns the components of Defencive Tactics through instruction and application.

Additionally, the participant will understand the physiology of a confrontation, have a raised awareness to pre-attack indicators, and gain a better understanding of articulating force used and positional awareness.

Defencive Tactics training is designed to promote techniques for self-protection that effectively and efficiently deal with assaultive-level resistors. Participants are required to be in good physical condition.

Impact Weapon Course is designed to promote safe and efficient use of the expandable baton. The student will learn and understand the situations that allow for the use of the baton. The student will be aware of the principles of Impact Weapon Tactics and how they relate to the Ontario Use of Force model.

The course will focus on; portation (carrying), presentation (drawing), striking techniques, mechanical function, and maintenance.
The student must pass a written exam and a physical performance test.

• General Guidelines for use of impact weapons
• Baton Principles
• Baton Warm-up and Strengthening Exercises
• Expandable Baton Techniques
• Testing, Open and Closed Impact Weapon Skills

Impact Weapons Course is designed to promote reasonable impact weapon tactics that effectively and efficiently deal with assaultive-level combatants. As a result of the physical nature of the class, participants are required to be in good physical condition.
